I have spent more than thirty years in design: typefaces, magazines and branding. Early in my career, I had the privilege of collaborating with Steve Jobs at Apple, contributing to the beginning of desktop publishing. Painting ran alongside all of it, and it is now the centre of my work.

Two encounters set the direction. Seeing Pollock's paintings in New York showed me how much energy a surface can hold. Standing in front of Richter's Cage paintings showed me what happens when that energy is buried under layer after layer and only partly allowed back through. My paintings began somewhere between those two experiences, though the longer I work, the less they resemble either.

I paint in oil on linen, at two metres and above. I build each surface in layers, dragging paint across the canvas, scraping it back and repeating, until the painting rewards standing close as much as standing back. Nothing is printed or editioned. Each work exists once.

My studios are in France and Australia, and I work with collectors worldwide, on originals and on commissions made for a particular room. If you would like to talk about a painting, I would be glad to hear from you.
